We went to a Growers' Market at a winery up the road from us this morning. It was a bit disappointing as there was very little fruit and veg, but we did have a win. There was a local organic dairy there and they had milk, cheeses and frozen yoghurt. We bought a frozen passionfruit yoghurt and it was not only delicious, I couldn't see why I couldn't make my own; it is hardly rocket science. So when we got home I mixed some of the plain yoghurt I made yesterday with the flesh of one...

Just made some reduced sugar, microwave quince jelly. Now got to work on a recipe for raspberry and strawberry jam. Yum

Has anyone got any original ideas for sandwich filing? Only ones that are practical, affordable and that the kids would like (i.e. excluding the dreaded 'salad' in Jamies' case )

Also anythng 'different' to put in the lunch boxes would be good...

I fancy having a go at making one of these for the hall, or my bedroom (depending how it turns out!) but haven't a clue where to start or what I need.

I think we are all feeling the pinch this year, with rising costs of food etc and I think this works rather well with the recycling of things. I thought maybe we could have a "money saving tips" thread (I think we had one a long while back?) I'm sure you've all got lots of recipes for left-overs, recycling ideas etc - lets share them!

Any other lovers of really good olive oil in here?

I was commenting in Mugg's thread about the "extra virgin" and "first cold pressing" descriptions, saying that I'd only ever encountered olive oil that was the result of one cold pressing. In fact if you ask anyone in Greece who produces the stuff about a second pressing they look either totally blank or as if they're clearly wondering what planet you've dropped in from.

I fancy making a vegetarian dinner tonight and I have .....

that can be used up, but I'm stuck for ideas other than the boring "veggie lasagne", veggie cobbler or gardeners pie.

Gave James a cookery lesson today
I taught him how to make a shortcrust pastry and we made a treacle tart with it .... delish! He was great at mixing the fat and flour.
We also made a rice pudding for tea .... mega delish!
and obviously chocolate cornflake cakes!

Blimey though ... did he make a mess!!!! And he certainly has the right temperament to be a chef :rofl

I have decided my lack of ability to produce more than five batches without starting from bought yoghurt was caused by adding jam for flavouring before I put the batch in the machine, possibly aided by not sterilizing the jars and mixing utensils. This round is up to the nineth batch and comes out luvly.

I seem to have drawn the short straw and am cooking dinner for my parents on Saturday night, as a celebration for their RubyWedding. We are eating at their house because their table is bigger (there will be 10 of us incl children), but I'm cooking at mine as I prefer to use my own kitchen.

Thought I would seek your opinions on the menu that I have chosen to cook ..... Please let me know if you think this...

Limp Crisps

We have just acquired a deep fat frier so I had a go at makeing home made potato crisps. I followed the recipe in the instuctions and all went ok. I put them in an air tight tin but they have gone all limp.
Putting them in the microwave brings them back again but does anyone know how to keep them fresh and crisp without doing this.
