Spring Tidy Up (10 Piccies)

These are a few piccies taken after the big start of season clean up. One corner cleared and planted up again, another corner near the shed re-planted after removing a fatsia and some potted plants on the new gravel bit. Still bits and bobs to do, setting up a new bistro table, chairs and bench and the patio to clean before I'm satisfied for this year.

Tulip Time

My tulips are blooming too and one thing about the cool temperatures right now, is that they are lasting a little longer than ususal. I still have a few late ones to come, but the main flush is at it's peak right now.

New Projects

At either side of the back door is a narrow border that hardly gets any sun, I've tried all types of plants to no avail. They either go leggy or die, so I've decided to gravel the area and use it for pots that are either in flower or going over. I had a cornered planter and a round planter at the old house and decided to make use of them here. I've put one near the back door and the other on the patio area. Still work in progress, but getting there.

Garden waste

It is that time of year for me, when everything gets sorted and boy what a load of garden waste I end up with. The problem is how do you get rid of it?

Before you all say 'get a compost bin' I would like to ask - would you put 10 bin liners full of weevil laden compost in your compost bin?

Laying that section aside, during the past three weeks I have generated in the region of 40 bags of garden refuse, and I still have about 100' of border and the courtyard...

Pretty Little Thing

I wish I knew the name of this dear little plant. I'm not usually a fan of smaller plants but I do have a special fondness for this one. I seem to remember that it's a type of Euphorbia, but not sure. I love it's leaf and the tiny flowers that come at this time of year. They're very hard to take a picture of because they quiver with just the slightest breeze.

I think it would be a great, "Guess the plant", if I knew it's name.

Propagating Bourganvillia's

Hi all,

Has anybody had any luck with propagating Bourganvillia's? I tried with some softwood cuttings last year - they all died. Have not experimented with hardwood cuttings yet.
Would appreciate any advice or tips-n-tricks anybody has..

This is growing in one of my flower beds and I don't know whether to pull it out or not!
It first appeared last year and I left it to see what would happen. It survived through the winter and is now growing quite bushy. There is no sign of any flower buds, but I do like the leaves, I think they are really pretty. So.........does anyone know what it is?

The dreaded lily beetle.....

The dreaded lily beetle has arrived in my garden and has been chewing on my young lily plants. Killed 10-12 yesterday on 4x 6inch plants - so I went looking and on a container of newly emerged lillies found 4 more. So I shall be keeping a close eye on them now for more of the little b******s

Fuchsia Quasar

We went to a meet of our local garden club today. We visited a family nursery. I rather liked this fuchsia, but unfortunately it wasn't for sale.

Edit: Just found out I didn't have the faintest idea how to spell 'fuchsia'.

Sure enough as I started digging out the old compost - that was going to go onto my front borders - there were loads of the wee blighters.

I have been killing them as I dig out but I am not going to risk putting this compost...
