Post your images on this thread, together with details of the plant and your area, and it will be transferred HERE as a permanent record as time permits. It would be very helpful to those that are searching the database, and unfamiliar with your plant or shrub, to give a few details about it such as maximum size, best aspect, etc. If you aren't sure then just do a quick google. It will help someone else so much.

Just looked it up as I couldn't think for the life of me why quinces are called 'kydonia' in Greek and, predictably, it's not that simple - see here. All I know is that my mum used to have one that looked just like yours, and it used to have fruit that definitely looked like quinces. I believe it will grow in any soil (it's acid in Manchester but I swear I've seen them in alkaline soils) and it will take semi-shade. So there!

The obliging Pelargonium must be familiar to all of us but the leaves, here reddened and dusted with frost, make a surprising source of winter colour. It doesn't always pay to be in a hurry to tidy up. Given a sheltered spot, Pelargoniums can over-winter nicely and, even if they're past their best, will give you a good source for cuttings. A very pretty little species Tulip, only around 4-6" high, with flowers that nod until they open fully - into golden-centred white stars. Well known and cheerful miniature daffodil - 15cm/6in high - of all the little ones this looks most like your usual Daff scaled down (other miniatures tend to have the petals open much further back than the classic daffodil). Really likes a lighter soil than my clay, and more light than where I put it, but is long as it isn't overhung by other foliage it'll take it. Much better at resisting the weather than it's larger top-heavy cousins, which tend to get felled by the heavy rain here. Brussels, Belgium

I've never been successful getting berries (they both had white berries when they were planted and I didn't know you needed a male plant to get them again!), but this is still a handsome evergreen shrub which has attractive clusters of tiny buds over a long period, starting in autumn, which finally open into white flowers in spring. Here the buds are just beginning to break. It's fully hardy, likes shade or partial shade, and grows to about a metre high and wide. It's said to require acid soil (pH 5.6 to 6.0) but my soil is neutral clay (pH around 7) and it's perfectly happy. The cultivar 'Rubella' (male) has pink buds and flowers. Both pink and white versions are also supposed to be fragrant; I can't say I've ever noticed, not having much of a tendency to be out in the garden in the cold! Brussels, Belgium

A beautiful clump-forming perennial with purple shoots maturing to velvet-dark green leaves with purple stems, it's evergreen and to top all that smothers itself in wonderful acid-lime green flowers in Spring. Height about 30cm/12 in, and spread about twice that, forming quite a dense mound of foliage. Propagate by division in Spring. It likes a bit of shade, but is pretty tolerant and isn't fussy about soil pH either. Dead-head after flowering or, if you're me, chop it down when the flowers get on your nerves. In the end, though, it had to go for two reasons. Firstly it proved a bit tender for my frost-pocket of a garden (or maybe it was the occasional savage east wind) - the leaves at the tops of the stems would regularly get shrivelled, and although it recovered every time, it looked awful until it did. And secondly I just couldn't stand the smell when it was in flower! It may not bother you at all - do a sniff-check before you buy. I'd have it again like a shot if I could give it a better microclimate and had space to admire it without getting within sniffing range. NB: as with all Euphorbias, beware the poisonous and irritant sap! Brussels, Belgium Note: This is a so-so pic of a smashing-looking plant. I never could capture either the richness of the foliage or the purity of the colour of the flowers - so if anyone has a better one please shove it in! I did look on the web but didn't find anything better apart from ones that looked suspiciously over-purple and retouched! I decided to leave out the interesting aside about the last one being the 'tonsil-like' euphorbia as far as I'm concerned. Note to everyone else: in Greek 'amigdales' are tonsils; 'amigdala' are almonds. Trust me to fix on the first of those two possible associations.
