The only thing I can think of right off the top of my head would be possibly a type of Dianthus ?
I have 2 varieties here - one is a medium pink and one is a red. Single petals - smal round shape with approximately 5 petals each flower. Flat like a mallow. Grows maybe 6" - 8" high and does spread if let go to seed.Green oval shaped leaves - small . Theresa |

thank you for the suggestion but i do not think that is my answer this flower head is about the size of a big daisy and petals are all crowed together around the middle with probably ten flat petals or more i am going to try to go back to the lady and ask if i can take a picture of the flower that way i might get more help on identifying it. the leaves are sort of soft and limp looking and a bit round they are very soft to the touch. i ll try to get a picture and send it in, she said it came from a serbian family who brought the seeds with them when they came to this country. thanks again, jan

Jan , I assure you if we can get a picture , more than likely it will be identified.
There are so many knowledgeable people on this site , somebody will know something to get you in the right direction. I have learned the hard way - Plant Families are just too large and too varied ! Yeah , be sure to post it in this Forum - I'm curious . Have a Good Evening - I think I'm calling it a night. Theresa |

ok if i did this right here is the place to see this flower
![]() ![]() ![]() as i said in my first posting, it looks to be from the mallow family also looks a little like a hibiscus but is not like it because of the texture of the plant and foilage i hope someone knows, i bet it is a serbian wildflower bought to this country by a young serbian bride who carefully wrapped the seeds in her handkerchief to bring her homeland closer as she made her way to the new country she would be sharing with her husband. It is truly a beautiful little flower and it really does look like has been intricately hand carved out of wood. It does not seed it self, the seeds must be harvested in September when the plant is done, it blooms all summer. thanks and best wishes, jan added pics to post for you to make it easier for everyone to help. Jan, your description is right on the money .Now that I've seen it , I'll start looking for it. Most interesting flower - has to be a mallow of some sorts. Good job on posting those pictures ! We stand a good chance now of finding out what it is . Theresa |

Jan , this is a link to a site I found . I believe yours to be some type of Malva neglecta or rotundifolia - boils down to Common Mallow . Wildflower that varies from region to region. Often the roots are used in herbal medicine so if you could find someone knowledgeable in that area , they may be of more help in narrowing it down . I can not at this time . I suspect you are right on the money in the origin . Theresa |
