A dodgy microwave |
Lead | ||
|
I put this in here because it doesn't seem to get used as much, and wasn't sure anyway. Can anyone tell me if, it is dangerous to
use a microwave that has some of the plastic coating removed from the inside? Mine has lost some of the coating from underneath where the plate sits, i think
caused by one of the kids letting something over flow and then not cleaning it up. The microwave is around 2 years old and a Panasonic....if that makes any
difference, probably not

From a treehugger site
"You should be aware, however, that your oven could leak more microwave radiation, if it gets damaged, is dirty, or is improperly operated or maintained. You can minimize these chances by making sure that your oven door closes properly and that your door's safety devices (that prevent microwaves from being produced when the door is open) work correctly. Also, you should make sure that the seals to your door and oven are clean and intact. If your oven is damaged in any way, you should not use it until it has been repaired by an appropriately qualified service engineer.#

Panasonic is a good brand, we have had three microvave ovens since about 1980 and they have all been panasonic. But if it is physicallyt damaged you need to
replace it or get it examined to be on the safe side. They are comparitively cheap nowdays so I would be looking at replacing it if it were me.

I think your suggestion is a good one Bill, now all i need to know, is how to 'train' the kids.

A shame after only two years though, Panasonics should last far longer than that. Two of ours lasted in excess of ten years, the other one was blown up by a
power spike after about five. We now have spike protection on that power outlet.

Sometimes I think it's very obvious that I don't have any kids!
I bet if you did make them pay for it, or even towards it, though, they'd not only take extra-special care when using it, but nag you and your OH if you didn't clean it thoroughly after every time you used it. Oh, and there would doubtless be a huge row about who go to take it with them when they got a smart new household of their own.

Hopefully one day, when they are all bogged down with mortgages, kids, and car loans, WE (the Gnome and i) will get our own back...leave
them all to it, and go off on our world travels, and then insist they listen to all our tales when we return.
What's that saying............Don't get mad, get even.........oh yes!

That rather reminds me of when my grandchildren used to come round - three of them - and put their hands all over the windows. I got fed up with telling them
so I just got out all the window cleaning gear and made them clean the windows.
They complained bitterly to begin with, but when I explained that I had to do that every time they put their hands on the windows they didn't have a leg to stand on. It cured them

If you start glowing in the dark Ally - unplug it and don't use it again!

Seems like sound advice Ray.
I actually looked up the microwave date of purchase yesterday, along with daughter 3's stereo ( apparently it is $%%^&&$7...and she needs a new one...not from us she doesn't....oooooh Welcome to the real world of paying for things yourself Suze) and found out it is over 4 years old. Scary...i can picture being in the shop buying it, seems like yesterday. I actually thought i was over the top saying 2 years old. Dear o dear.
