I have shown this one before in Garden Snippets, but no one could identify it. I finally did and added a post to that effect. I have now edited it to remove
the name from the thread. The reason I am telling you this is that the thread, (from last November), as a result of my edit, has been bumped to the top again.

Well, I was going to say
 there are hundreds, even thousands, of them! Then I spotted something and got myself into a different tangle...
I think it's perhaps: Disocactus phyllanthoides 'German Empress' aka 'Deutsche Kaiserin' My tangle was over the naming - couldn't work out whether German Empress is the cultivar or the common name - I've come down on cultivar. Wikipedia practically admits its article on it is dodgy, and there's a debate going on in Dave's Garden about the correct ID of one of the pix supposedly of it. Really can't judge what's an authoritative source on this one. I bet it's the wrong plant after all that anyway!

I will have to give it to Pauline. She has the common name right, ('Deutsche Kaiserin'), but our flower bible gives the scientific name as
'Nopalxochia phyllanthoides'. 'Discocactus' (note the extra 'c') looks nothing like it in any of its varieties. It is bigger than it
perhaps looks in the picture. To help with scale, the post behind it in the picture is 100mm (4 inches) square.
Anyway, your turn to torment us Pauline.

Well, I'm glad my agonising over the name wasn't a complete waste of time.
Dave's Garden, which I generally find rather good, gives the name as Disocactus phyllanthoides 'German Empress' - and that's clearly a translation of 'Deutsche Kaiserin' - with the following synonyms: Phyllocactus phyllanthoides
