I know this might sound stupid but can someone please tell me in detail how to take privet cuttings and is this the right time of the year

Privet. Alan Gould. 16/11/01.
In summertime shorter soft cuttings will strike easily, but at this time of the year it is better to take longer shoots of privet so as to include some firm wood on the cuttings. Take shoots about 8 to 12 in. long and set them into pots or trays at about 1 to 1.5 ins. deep in ordinary good gompost. They will have a better chance if they are under cover or given some protection while they are becoming established. Next spring or summer they will be ready to put out into their groeing positions. The cuttings will not all take, so start with a generous number of them.

Thank you very much Alan will try this next week and put them in the greenhouse regards B.K.
