guys
. How are you all doing? We're OK here. We're in a place called Calicut at the moment, on our way to Goa via Bangalore. This country is
just so immense that you have to break up the train journeys somewhere - you sit for around 5 hours on a train and cover about an inch worth of map - it's
unreal! Not enjoying this place much - it's absolutely stinking and filthy, the smog is just unbelievable and the whole place stinks of rotting fruit for
some reason - that is, until you get nearer the sea (about 10 mins by tuk tuk from here) and then it stinks of rotting fish instead
.
We haven't seen a single Westerner since we arrived in Calicut - we're well off the tourist trail at the moment. There aren't that many people here that speak English. We've started eating in the places where the Indians eat - it's very tasty vegetarian food and costs 16 rupees for a meal - about 20p - for veg curry, rice and a poppadum. Think our stomachs are gradually getting used to it
Anyway this isn't really the kind of place we had in mind so we're catching the next train out of here at 19:30 this evening to Bangalore, which is also a city, but somewhere we don't have much choice but to stop off at unless we want to spend more than 12 hours at a time on the train (the trains are great, but that's still quite long enough)
Please, please, could we swap some snow for some sun and sweatiness? I can't remember the last time I wore anything that wasn't stuck to me within 5 mins
Will be in touch very soon. It isn't easy to keep up with the forums from here, what with queues for the machines and (very) regular power cuts, so I hope you're all doing well

still
it a hol you never forget and yes will swap you snow for the heat carry on enjoying yourselves
