What Is The Difference? |

I've been out planting quite a lot this week and have seen 2 different mice in the garden. One mouse was brown and one was grey, both the same size and
definitely not a fieldmouse. Can anyone, especially cat lovers, know the difference? Please don't say the colour.

From what I remember Saph , house mice are a browny - grey and field mice are browner. Could one of them have been a vole ? One type of vole is about the same
size from what little I can recollect

Dare I say that one could be a young rat? The rats in next door's garden are much smaller than I imagined, in fact, we were claiming they were voles until
someone put us right.

The rats in next door's garden are much smaller than I imaginedNot here, they won't be. They ploughed the field outside on Saturday, and clearly disturbed a rat which made its way along the side of the close. It was the size of a small cat! 
I find the bald tail is the easiest way to identify a rat (as distinct from either mouse or cat  ).
Ah - it was brown. And this link might be a good one for you to sort your mice out, Saph.

The link you gave me Lynne, the wood mouse looks like the brown one. Looking at the link you gave me Pauline the house mouse is spot on for the grey one.
