I have been asked why it takes so long for the thingys to appear on RG, and I
thought that maybe you would all like to see my reply, just to know how it is all done.
It all starts with me receiving a PM or email from a winner, nowadays it is mainly asking for their thingy prize to be
donated to another member that they name.
I find that member on RG - sometimes this can take a few minutes if they don't post in the obvious places - and I
then send them a PM giving them the link to the RG page where all the thingys are listed, asking them to choose.
Surprisingly quite a few members aren't constantly on RG or, even if they do come on regularly, they don't
notice a PM waiting for them. However once they have chosen their thingy they PM me back with the name.
I then go into their profile to pick up their member name accurately - quite a few members are local users and
therefore their registered name is slightly different.
I then go into my filing system and bring out the piece of coding that I use and put in their
membername and the name that is normally seen on RG. I then go to the RG website and delete the yellow band alongside
the thingy chosen (yellow band being the indicator that the thingy is still available), and fill in the name of the person using that particular
thingy. I also put in the name of the person who originally won the thingy and by this time I have generally forgotten
who it originally was that won the thingy - hence the reason that I am now listing them in the Forums.
I then have to pick up the file name for the thingy that has now been allocated and enter it into
the coding.
I then move to the administrative side of RG Yuku Forums and enter the whole html coding in
there. Whoopee the job is done.
The only thing I have to do then is re-upload the RG website onto the server so that when I contact the next person
who is allocated a thingy, it will show those still available accurately.
The
only problem I have with the whole process is typing with dirt on the hands cos really I am outside gardening ![]()
