To stop unwanted e-mails:
See here for managing e-mail notifications of PMs and any subscriptions you
might have made to topics or forums.
To stop unwanted private messages:
1
See here for removing membership of a community (which
you may or may not know you belong to) - which will stop your getting PMs from it.
2
You can restrict the people who can send you a private message in a more general way:
Click the little message icon
at the top of the screen to go to your inbox. On the left of the page are the "Messages menu" and "Messages legend" blocks.
At the bottom of the menu block click on "Settings":
This takes you to the message settings page (for you and any alter-egos you may have
), and the bit you want is "who can message [username]":
The default is "everybody", but if you click the down-arrow on the right you'll see the choices:
3
You can put a complete block on an individual member, using the "interact" feature:
Click on "Interact" in any posting by the member you want to block and you get a popup menu of options.
We're talking about blocking here, but you'll see there are also options to "Ignore user's posts" and "Show/hide user's
posts" which I suppose you could use as well if they've really got up your nose!
Back to blocking - click on that option and you'll get a confirmation page, and all you need do is click on "Block" or "Cancel":
I, of course, clicked on cancel - well, I'm not about to block myself, am I?
